Mr. Chuck Korn, Supervisor

Dear Mr. Korn,
The objectives of the Grand Traverse Audubon Club are the welfare and preservation of the bird life and other fauna, the flora, the resources and the beauty of our environment, especially in the Grand Traverse Area. We shall cooperate with any individual, organization, or governmental unit that shares these objectives.

In the spirit of the above objectives, the Board of the Grand Traverse Audubon Club would like to go on record in support of the Botanical Garden Society of Northwest Michigan and the Traverse City/Garfield Township Recreational Authority in their efforts to obtain a Michigan Department of Natural Resources Trust Fund Grant. It is our understanding that the grant would be used to provide handicap-accessible trails that connect and complete loops of the TART Trail and Safe Routes to School Trail. It would also help with the development of a native plant garden and wildlife viewing platform and viewing scope, as well as partial funding for the park’s Interpretive Center.

We feel that the improvements made as a result of this grant would support our objectives, as well as the objectives of the Botanical Garden Society of Northwest Michigan and the Traverse City/Garfield Township Recreational Authority. These objectives include that of attracting and providing habitat for birds and other wildlife through the establishment of native plantings and habitat restoration, and the establishment of facilities that encourage the observation of this wildlife.

We enthusiastically support the Botanical Garden Society of Northwest Michigan and the Traverse City/Garfield Township Recreational Authority in their efforts to improve wildlife habitat and wildlife viewing opportunities in the Grand Traverse Area.

Respectfully submitted with the approval of the Board of the Grand Traverse Audubon Club on March 23, 2011,

Holly Vaughn
Grand Traverse Audubon Club President
